Breaking – NATO wants a permanent military presence on the Hungarian-Ukrainian border

The general secretary of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, said that they would like to establish a permanent presence on the Eastern borders of the military alliance. He added that the new troops would be a response to possible Russian aggression in the future.

NATO sees the Russian threat as the new reality

According to blikk.hu, Stoltenberg said that what we are experiencing is the new reality, the new order of European security. Therefore, he asked the alliance commanders to prepare for the long-term adaptation of NATO to that situation. The general secretary added that the June NATO summit in Madrid would decide what to do next. He highlighted that NATO is transforming because of the deeds of Russian president Vladimir Putin.

As we reported before, NATO decided in March that they would create new battlegroups in Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, and Slovakia.

The Czechs want American troops

Based on 24.hu, the Czech Republic would like to have some form of US military presence in the country. Defence Minister Jana Cernochová said she would like to raise that issue in their next bilateral meeting. That is scheduled after Easter with her American colleague, Lloyd Austin.

Prague would, for example, allow the USA to use some of its military bases like Slovakia did before. Prime Minister Petr Fiala said such decisions were so important that the government could not decide alone. They need the authorisation of the Parliament. Moreover, Cernochová confirmed that the Czechs would buy 12 or more American helicopters.

Refugees keep coming to Hungary

Meanwhile, Ukrainian refugees continue to arrive in Hungary every day. According to MTI, a total of 5,213 people crossed into Hungary directly from Ukraine on Saturday, while another 5,045 from Ukraine crossed from Romania, the national police headquarters told MTI on Sunday. Police issued temporary residence permits valid for thirty days to 930 people, the police website reported. Holders of such permits must contact a local immigration office near their place of residence within thirty days to apply for permanent documents, it added.

Budapest police received 531 refugees, 210 children among them, by train, according to the municipal police website.

Refugees arriving on special train services at Kőbnya felső railway station, in eastern Budapest, were taken by bus to the BOK sports and events centre serving as a humanitarian transit point. The authorities transported 22 people, including 11 children, to accommodation in the capital and outlying areas.

  1. Why must Russia be provoked? My very big concern is that a permanent NATO military presence on the Hungarian-Ukranian border will cause Hungary and other Eastern European countries to be regarded by Russia as the enemy to be attacked. A peaceful agreement that will end the war is needed. Not military acts that Russia regards as aggression that can only result in endless wars; huge numbers of deaths, hunger, and enormous suffering.

PETER HITCHENS: The USA wants this war… so it can drive Russia back to the Stone Age
This is not a war between Ukraine and Russia. It is a war between the USA and Russia, in which both sides are cynically using Ukraine as a battering ram. The people of Ukraine will gain nothing and lose much from being treated in this way. They fight and die or lose their homes and flee. We pour in more weapons and shout encouragement from a safe distance. Russia wrecks the joint. What Ukraine actually needs is action to cure its festering, universal corruption. It would also benefit from the pushing to the margins of the ultra-nationalist fanatics who have far too much influence in its government and armed forces. The war will make these problems worse, not better.
As I once again find myself on the despised, hated and reviled side of the argument, I might as well do this properly. These are very cynical events indeed. I am sorry to say that there are people in the USA who will not be sad if this war drags on. A ‘senior diplomat’ was quoted on Friday, by a commentator with ready access to the great and the good, as saying: ‘If you look at all the options, our strategic interest is probably best served in a long war, a quagmire that drains Putin militarily and economically so he cannot do this again.’
This is no doubt true. Since the American neo-conservative politician Paul Wolfowitz set out his ‘doctrine’ in 1992, Washington has wanted to crush any revival of Russian power. The flaw with this scheme is that it was, in fact, China that was the threat, not Russia. But there you are. Mr Wolfowitz, a keen backer of the disastrous Iraq war, is not as clever as he thinks he is.
It is this policy which explains the otherwise mad expansion of Nato, against the warnings of every qualified expert in the world. It also explains the taunting of Russia by President George W. Bush’s 2008 suggestion that Ukraine should actually join Nato.
This came just a year after Vladimir Putin, still more or less open to reason, said very clearly that he’d had enough and that Nato expansion should stop. Then, of course, came the events of 2014, in which the USA openly backed a mob putsch which overthrew Ukraine’s legitimate President Viktor Yanukovych. More responsible nations, including France, Germany and Poland, tried to broker a peaceful, lawful path………..

  3. Attention, Mary Le Pen is winning elections in France. She wants France out of NATO. This is the beginning of change started in Hungary by Viktor Orban. Other European countries will follow Hungary in it’s conservative politics.

  4. Zelensky forced Russia to invade when he voiced his intention of joining NATO. That was the last straw. Yes, Zelensky was urged by Mr. Biden to join. No foreign forces should ever be allowed a permanent base in Hungary. Once foreign bases are established, they will never leave. US bases stayed in Germany since 1945. Although, members of the US Armed Forces are great people, the same cannot be said about Austin and Miley. When bases are established by foreign forces, this diminishes the country’s sovereignty.

SAY NO TO NATO FORCES ON THE BORDER OF HUNGARY AND UKRAINE.

Hungary is a small country, in case of need, Hungary can be reached in a matter of hours.

  5. In mariavonviktor’s eyes everything appears to be everyone else’s fault and not Putin’s. A bit more detail on how “Hungary can be reached in a matter of hours” wouldn’t go amiss.

The armchair strategist has a real downer on the USA, don’t you old chap.
